by Maulana Shah SyedWaris Hassan A Guide for Spiritual Aspirants is a collection
of sayings and discourses of an eminent saint of the Indian sub-continent
who lived during the earlier part of this century, Maulana Shah Syed Waris
Hassan (r.a.). The book is actually a part translation of an original Urdu
text, "Shamamtul Ambar". This inspiring book is concise and written
in very readable, non-technical, and everyday language. As the title suggests, the book contains advice for those who aspire to tread the spiritual path. Through simple analogies, the author sets the backdrop and context for one's conduct in the life of this physical world as a spiritual aspirant. In one chapter, man's relationship with God is clarified, and the simple rationale behind performing religious rituals and abiding by religious laws are logically explained. In another chapter, the author sets out the need for a spiritual guide. The author briefly describes how to recognise the qualities of a of a true"Shaikh" or guide and the catagories of spiritual guides. He also speaks of the proper behaviour of a 'mureed' or student towards his Shaikh. While this short book can be finished in a few sittings, it is the kind of book that one would want to read over and over again to more deeply reflect upon its message. 0.2" x 5.5" x 8.5", 77 pages, ISBN 967-9963-44-6, US$ 5.00 |
